Help Start Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit committed to bridging the digital divide by empowering underserved students with the technology they need to succeed in online learning and break the cycle of poverty. By providing refurbished laptops to students enrolled in accredited programs worldwide, Help Start enables learners to connect, grow, and transform their futures through education.
Our Story
Help Start began with a simple belief that education is not a privilege but a fundamental right. Founded in 2020, this organization emerged from a heartfelt desire to remove barriers to learning by addressing a critical need—access to computers. With a vision rooted in opportunity and dignity, Help Start has grown steadily through meaningful partnerships and the generous support of donors who share a passion for global education equity.
OUR IMPACT
Since our inception, we have blessed 40,000 students with refurbished laptops. We operate in 18 African countries and the Philippines and have served and are serving 38 missions through our Returning Missionary Pilot program.
Mission
Partnership is at the heart of what we do. We’re proud to work closely with organizations like BYU-PathwayWorldwide that share our deep-seated belief in the transformative power of education for all.
"Intelligence is equally distributed. Opportunity is not."
Brian K. Ashton, President, BYU-Pathway Worldwide
How Help Start Works
Donate
Supporters contribute funds that are fully tax-deductible.
Equip
Refurbished laptops are delivered to students who are actively enrolled in online certificate and degree programs.
Learn & Thrive
With technology in hand, students connect to learning platforms, complete coursework, and unlock opportunity for themselves and their communities.
WORLDWIDE IMPACT
Help Start measures impact in lives changed and potential unleashed:
Lives Blessed: Thousands of devices distributed to students in need.
Communities Reached: Widening access across continents, particularly in Africa and Asia.
Doorways: Each laptop represents a pathway to learning, connection, and future prosperity.
Why It Matters
Access to education is linked to technology; and students in underdeveloped regions face barriers without
reliable devices. Help Start aims to empower students with the necessary tools, fostering lasting opportunities,
strengthening families and building resilient communities.
Partnership with Breadgivers
Together, Breadgivers and Help Start share a commitment to dignity through empowerment. By focusing on
sustainable educational access, this partnership seeks to widen the circle of opportunity for students who have
historically been left behind. Together we invest in futures that produce confidence, capability and community
impact.

Testimonial
“I want to thank you greatly for the support you have given me and my fellow students in receiving laptops. We received them just in time for the next semester, and this has also motivated others to join BYU-PathwayConnect classes. Thank you again and God bless you.”
